The Pottery of Lari Robson

There is presence in his work, a sureness of form, a steady balance of weight and density, lift and give. These pots are at rest. They sit fully planted, giving off a tangible sense of place.

When you hold or view one of Lari’s pots, you can feel the pressure of his hand – the firmness, certainty and resounding patience of this man. Lari shapes each piece with a mixture of ease and push, calmness and control, strength and gentleness. His work embodies the decisive, unfettered action that is the result of   a lifetime of dedication: years of practice in the art of touch, guiding the pull of wet clay or the heat of a fire in just the right way, at just the right time. These pots aren’t forced, they aren’t hurried, they aren’t contrived. They are simply and unabashedly
made.

Here is a craftsman fully immersed in his craft, a man fully attending to his work. He lives and breathes his art, knows it as surely in his heart as his own pulse. The result is pottery that endures, that stills us to the core. Pots that in their quiet, persistent way, command and hold our absolute attention.
